Rune pendant – letter ‘B’ – antique Argentium silver wax seal
This is the Berkana rune. It is the origin of the letter ‘B’
Berkana means either ‘birth’ or ‘birch’. It symbolizes nurturing and life giving qualities.
The rune Berkana represents the way of the mother, the healer and the midwife. It brings new life after death, just as the birch tree forms the first leaves after winter. The nurturing and life-giving qualities are firmly associated with Berkana, but so are the end of life and death.
The Runes I make are based on The Elder Futhark. This is the writing system used by Germanic peoples in the 2nd to 10th Centuries and is considered to be the basis for our current alphabet.
I make a melted puddle of Argentium Silver resembling a wax seal. I solder the Rune to this base, and then dap the entire piece for a gentle dome. Then the bail is added and lots of polishing.
The entire pendant is then antiqued. The antique finish is permanent and it never needs polishing.

Argentium Silver is a high quality silver with a silver content of 940. It has the unique feature of having a small amount of Germanium added. Argentium Silver is whiter, harder and slower to tarnish. And it is always nickel-free.
This pendant comes with an 18″ Sterling Silver bead chain – with an antique finish.
