Rune pendant – letter ‘N’ – Argentium silver wax seal – antique

This Rune is called Nauthiz. It is the origin for the letter ‘N’.

The Nauthiz rune means ‘need’ or ‘necessity’.

Nauthiz is quite a complicated Rune and for a good reason. You see, this Rune is connected to our destiny. When this Rune shows up it signifies and warns for the upcoming life challenges. But the key is not to fall into a despair. This Rune predicts the time of the “need” but also offers a chance for liberation and if a person realizes it, they can overcome any challenges.

The Runes I make are based on The Elder Futhark. This is the writing system used by Germanic peoples in the 2nd to 10th Centuries and is considered to be the basis for our current alphabet.

I make a melted puddle of Argentium Silver resembling a wax seal. Then I fuse pieces of square wire to make the Rune symbol.

Each melted boulder – also called a ‘wax seal’ – is handmade from Argentium silver that I have melted and shaped while the silver is still hot. I melt solid Argentium silver, until it is soft but not fluid – and then, using a jewellers pick, I manipulate the silver to resemble a historical ‘wax seal’.

When I have both pieces ready, I solder the Rune to the base. I dap the entire piece for a gentle dome. Then the bail is added and lots of polishing.

The last step is to antique the pendant and polish the high spots back to shiny silver. The antique finish is permanent and it never needs polishing.

Argentium Silver is a high quality silver with a silver content of 940. It has the unique feature of having a small amount of Germanium added. Argentium Silver is whiter, harder and slower to tarnish. And it is always nickel-free.
