Amethyst Pendant – Argentium Silver Melted Boulder – Antique Finish
Description
Each Amethyst Pendant begins as a melted boulder, also known as a wax seal. I melt solid Argentium silver until it softens, then shape it with a jeweller’s pick to form a natural, uneven surface. Once the silver cools, I smooth the edges and prepare it for setting.
Design & Feel
For this pendant, I chose an oval, faceted Amethyst to complement the rich antique silver. I handcraft the bezel to fit the stone and solder it securely to the base. A sturdy bail is then attached for balance and strength. After careful polishing and shaping, I apply a permanent antique patina that deepens the texture and highlights the stone’s violet colour.
Argentium Heat & Finish
I heat-treat the pendant to activate the germanium oxide layer that defines Argentium 940 silver. This process strengthens the surface and improves tarnish resistance. The antique finish is permanent and never needs polishing — a soft cloth is enough to maintain its shine.
