Opal Doublet Pendant – Argentium Silver Wax Seal – Antique
Description
Each melted boulder – also called a “wax seal” – is handmade from Argentium silver. I melt the metal until it is soft but not fluid, then use a jeweller’s pick to move and shape the surface. This creates the natural edges and flowing textures that give each pendant its own form.
Design & Feel
The design feels balanced and luminous. The antique patina darkens the recessed areas and brightens the raised edges. Because of this, the silver complements the soft light of the Opal. Every pendant forms differently, which makes each one unique.
Argentium Heat & Finish
Because this pendant is made with Argentium silver, I heat-treat it to activate the germanium oxide layer. This process strengthens the silver and slows tarnish. After the heat work, I apply a permanent antique finish that enhances texture and never needs polishing.
About the Stone
This Australian Opal Doublet from the Coober Pedy mines weighs 8.5 carats. Its play of colour shifts between blue, violet, and green as the light moves across the surface. I hand-make the bezel to fit each stone, solder it to the pendant base, and refine the finish before attaching the bail.
