Opal Pendant – Argentium Silver Wax Seal – Antique
Description
Each melted boulder – also called a “wax seal” – is handmade from Argentium silver. I melt the metal until it is soft but not fluid, then use a jeweller’s pick to move and shape the surface. This forms the natural edges and textures that give each pendant its own balance.
Design & Feel
The design feels both ancient and luminous. The antique patina deepens the valleys and highlights the raised edges. Because of this, light moves softly across the silver and complements the gemstone’s glow. Every pendant forms in its own way, so each one is unique.
Argentium Heat & Finish
Because this pendant is made with Argentium silver, I heat-treat it to activate the germanium oxide layer. This process increases hardness and slows tarnish. Afterward, I apply a permanent antique finish that enhances texture and never needs polishing.
About the Stone
This natural Australian Opal Doublet from the Coober Pedy mines weighs 0.5 carats. The gem displays flashes of blue, green, and violet that shift with light. I hand-make the bezel for each gemstone, solder it to the pendant base, and refine the finish before attaching the bail.
