Grossular Garnet Pendant – Argentium Silver Melted Boulder – Antique Finish
Description
Each Grossular Garnet Pendant begins as a melted boulder, also called a wax seal. I melt solid Argentium silver until it softens, then move the metal with a jeweller’s pick to shape the flowing surface. Once the texture forms, I smooth the edges and prepare the base for the stone.
Design & Feel
For this pendant, I chose a freeform faceted Grossular Garnet. Its warm golden-green tones glow against the darkened antique silver. I handcraft a custom bezel for each gemstone, solder it to the pendant base, and add a solid bail. After shaping and polishing, I apply a permanent antique patina that highlights the Garnet’s colour and the molten surface beneath.
Argentium Heat & Finish
I heat-treat the silver to form the protective germanium oxide layer that defines Argentium 940. This strengthens the surface and slows tarnish. The antique finish is permanent and never needs polishing — a soft cloth is enough for care.
