🔨 STRUCTURE DESIGN
I make this Buttonhole ring from solid Argentium silver and form the band to wrap around the gemstone before doubling back to complete the ring. An oval smoky quartz sits securely within the opening. I hammer the buttonhole edge to add width, strength, and silver presence.

Design & Feel
The structure feels bold and intentional. At the same time, the wrapped form creates excellent comfort. Because the band widens at the front and narrows at the back, the ring balances visual weight without excess bulk.
Argentium Heat & Finish
Because this ring is made with Argentium silver, I then heat-treat the piece to activate the germanium oxide layer. This treatment raises hardness and slows tarnish. After the heat work, I set the gemstone and give a final polish for clarity and shine.
About the Stone
Smoky quartz is known for its earthy tone and grounding presence. In addition, the soft brown colour pairs well with structured silver designs. I selected this stone for its size, clarity, and depth of colour.

This ring is a size 13.25. The Buttonhole design spreads weight across the finger, which improves comfort and stability. However, wider rings can feel different than narrow bands.

This ring is made from solid Argentium 940 silver. Argentium silver has a bright white tone, increased hardness, and slower tarnish than traditional sterling. It is also nickel-free.

I shape the band first and form the buttonhole opening by hand. Next, I hammer the edge for width and strength. After that, I heat-treat the silver, set the stone, and polish the ring for a clean finish.
